Stash Worthy
No. 002
THE
FALL
EDIT
If I were hunting secondhand yarn (which I always am) for fall right now, these are the listings I’d actually stop scrolling for.
Not just pretty yarn. I’m looking for yarn that’s actually worth giving up stash space for: good fiber, enough yardage to make something real, prices that make sense, or something discontinued or interesting enough that I’d be annoyed if I let it go.
Buy them before I do.
The Luxury Find
01. Woolfolk Luft

55% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino, 45% organic Pima cotton, 9 hanks, about 981 yards total.
This is the one I’d actually buy.
Woolfolk is already expensive yarn, and this lot gives you nine matching hanks for well under what they’d cost at retail. The merino and cotton blend keeps it light and lofty instead of feeling super dense, and there’s enough here to actually think about a sweater or another real garment.
This is exactly what I mean by stash worthy: good fiber, enough quantity, and a price that makes me want to find a project for it immediately.
The Full Sweater Lot
02. Tahki Torino

Soft merino, 10 balls, forest green.
Ten matching balls is where I start paying attention.
This one isn’t about rarity. It’s just a really solid fall yarn buy. The color is good, the fiber is good, and there’s enough yarn here to actually design a garment around instead of ending up with another random two-skein stash situation.
That’s exactly the kind of practical fall buy this series is about.
The Quietly Great Deal
03. Sublime Extra Fine Merino DK

100% extra-fine merino, 10 matching balls, about 1,270 yards total in a muted sage.
Nothing especially rare about this one. It’s just a really good deal.
This is extra-fine merino priced like it isn’t, and you’re getting enough yardage to actually make something substantial. Sometimes stash worthy is less about finding some impossible-to-source vintage yarn and more about finding really good yarn at a price that makes sense.
This is that.
The Investment Project
04. Tahki Vermont

50% merino, 50% superfine alpaca, 18 balls, about 1,674 yards in a warm taupe.
Eighteen matching balls is kind of ridiculous, in the best way.
Would I buy yarn just because there’s a lot of it? No. But if I already had an oversized cardigan, poncho, or coat-like crochet piece in my head, this is the kind of lot I’d want to find.
The quantity is really what makes this one. You could build an entire fall piece around it and not spend the whole project worried about running out.
The Cashmere and Silk Splurge
05. Shalimar Yarns Breathless DK

75% superwash merino, 15% cashmere, 10% silk, 4 skeins, about 1,080 yards in Green Scarab.
Merino, cashmere, and silk in one yarn is enough to make me stop and look.
This color reads a little cooler and more blue-green than what I usually reach for. But the fiber content is gorgeous, and there’s enough yardage here that it doesn’t feel like buying four expensive skeins with no idea what to do with them.
Definitely stash worthy.
The Discontinued Cozy Find
06. Berroco Kodiak

Discontinued. About 61% baby alpaca, 24% nylon, 15% merino wool, 6 skeins, roughly 750 yards in a creamy beige.
This is the fluffy fall one.
It has that really soft, lofty look that makes you immediately start thinking about a hood, a cropped cardigan, a scarf, or some kind of fuzzy statement piece. And because it’s discontinued, it has a little more of that “find it while you can” appeal.
Six skeins isn’t endless yardage, but it’s enough to do something interesting.
The Wildcard
07. Recycled Sari Silk Yarn

10 hanks of bulky, seriously heavy recycled sari silk in a natural creamy tone.
This is not the yarn I’d buy because I need a sweater.
This is the yarn I’d buy because I suddenly have an idea.
The texture is irregular, a little unpredictable, and definitely not for every project, but that’s also what makes it interesting. This feels like the kind of yarn that could turn into something weird and sculptural and completely one-of-one.
I love that it exists.
With Love, Keke
